About Dr. Wood

Dr. Michael Wood is the Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), Harper University Hospital and is Clinical Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and has over 30 years of surgical experience. He has an extensive background in weight loss surgery and advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures. He has performed over 6000 weight loss surgeries and has devoted a large portion of his medical career to the study and treatment of obesity and weight loss strategies. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Wood has authored and coauthored numerous papers and book chapters related to obesity and bariatric surgery. He has collaborated on research projects with colleagues from the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative and the Division of Endocrinology at Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Dr. Wood has recently published a novel, called “The Enemy Within”, which is a fiction book that addresses the deleterious impact of obesity, in a slightly different and creative format.
