About Dr. Somerset

Dr. Somerset performs procedures at both Beaumont and Detroit Medical Center facilities.

Amy Somerset, MD is a board-certified general surgeon who is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She received her general surgery training at Beaumont Royal Oak and completed fellowship at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center.

Dr. Somerset specializes in bariatric surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, revision bariatric surgery and gastric band removal) in addition to heartburn surgery, gastrointestinal surgery (esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon), hernia repair, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and gallbladder removal. She offers both robotic and laparoscopic techniques to help her patients achieve their goals, utilizing small incision surgery to promote less pain and faster recovery.

She is the state’s representative for Access to Care for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Somerset is involved in many medical organizations, including ASMBS and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
